Registering Your Phone Number for the WhatsApp Business API

This guide shows how to register a phone number on the WhatsApp Business Platform starting from SendZen using Meta’s official Embedded Signup flow.
By the end, your number will be:
connected to your WhatsApp Business Account (WABA)
verified via OTP
ready to send messages through SendZen

Before you start (important checklist)#

Phone number requirements#

Use a phone number that can receive SMS or Voice OTP
Best option: a new number that is not used on WhatsApp
Avoid numbers with IVR / call routing (OTP often fails)
Ensure the SIM is active and reachable

If your number is already on WhatsApp (app)#

You have two options:
Use WhatsApp Co-existence (if supported for your case)
Or remove the number from the WhatsApp app first and then register via API
Read: WhatsApp Co-existence

Step 1: Open your WABA in SendZen#

1.
Log in to SendZen
2.
Go to My WABA
3.
Select the correct WABA (if you have multiple)
4.
Click Add Number / Register Number (label may vary)
This starts the Meta Embedded Signup process.

Step 2: Start Meta Embedded Signup (from SendZen)#

1.
A Meta login popup/tab opens
2.
Log in using the Meta account that owns (or will own) the Business Manager
3.
Continue the Embedded Signup flow
During this flow, you will:
select or create a Business Manager
select or create a WhatsApp Business Account (WABA)
add your phone number
verify it via OTP
✅ When Embedded Signup finishes, you are returned to SendZen.

Step 3: Add the phone number details#

Inside Embedded Signup, you will be asked to enter:
Country code
Phone number
Verification method (SMS or Voice)

Tips to avoid OTP issues#

Prefer SMS first, then try Voice if SMS fails (or vice versa)
Ensure the number can receive international messages/calls if applicable
Temporarily disable IVR / auto-attendant on that number

Step 4: Verify the number with OTP#

1.
Choose verification via SMS or Voice
2.
Enter the OTP you receive
3.
Submit
✅ If successful, the number becomes active under your WABA.

Step 5: Confirm status in SendZen#

After returning to SendZen:
1.
Go to My WABA
2.
Click View Status
3.
Open the phone number you just added
4.
Check the status
You should see something like:
Connected / Active / Ready
(Optional) display name pending/approved
quality rating / tier (may show later)
Note: Phone number registration and activation is controlled by Meta. Sometimes the number may not appear as “Ready” immediately even after OTP verification. If it stays in a pending/processing state, wait a bit and refresh — approval timing depends on Meta.

What to do next (recommended)#

1) Set a compliant display name#

2) Add billing/payment if required#

3) Create templates for business-initiated messages#

Templates are needed for:
OTP
reminders
alerts
notifications outside the service window
Read:
Managing Message Templates

4) Send a test message#

Quick Start: Sending Your First WhatsApp Message

Common registration problems (and fixes)#

OTP not received#

Try:
switch SMS ↔ Voice
disable IVR/call routing
confirm number format + country code
retry after a few minutes

“Number already connected to WhatsApp”#

Options:
use co-existence (if supported)
or remove it from the app first, then retry registration

Number shows connected but messages fail#

Most common causes:
billing not configured
template required (business-initiated message)
low tier / limit restrictions
quality issues
Start from:
SendZen → My WABA → View Status
Then open Meta links to verify the status.

Quick path to Meta from SendZen (for debugging)#

1.
