Migrating Your Number from Another Business Solution Provider (BSP)
Switching providers doesn’t mean starting from scratch. If your business already uses the WhatsApp Business Platform through another Business Solution Provider (BSP), you can transfer the same phone number and many of your assets to SendZen. Meta calls this process number migration. It moves your WhatsApp phone number from one WABA/BSP to another while preserving your display name, messaging limits, template approvals and Official Business Account status. Migration is ideal when you want to keep your existing number and brand reputation but benefit from SendZen’s developer‑friendly tools and pricing. This guide explains what migration entails, the limitations you should know, and how to migrate your number using SendZen’s onboarding flow.
You already have customers messaging your existing WhatsApp number. Switching to a new number can disrupt customer trust and require re‑educating your users.
You want to retain your current display name, messaging limits and Official Business Account (green tick) status. Meta allows these elements to transfer when you migrate via Embedded Signup.
You are unhappy with your current provider’s pricing or support and want to switch to SendZen without losing your history of approvals, quality ratings or template names.
Migration isn’t always necessary. If you’re just testing or don’t need to preserve existing assets, registering a new number may be simpler. For numbers still on the WhatsApp Business App (not the API), consider Co‑existence or upgrading to API‑only instead of migrating from a BSP.
Your phone number must have an approved display name with no pending change requests. If a display name change is in progress, wait until it completes or cancel it before migrating.
Migrated numbers can only be registered under the Cloud API. Numbers hosted on the legacy on‑premises API cannot migrate their message history or media files. If your current BSP uses on‑premises hosting, be aware that only the phone number and associated assets will move; chat history and uploaded media will not.
Test or sandbox numbers provided by WhatsApp for development cannot be migrated. Use a new number or request a production phone number from your original provider before migrating.
Migration does not move your historical conversations or media files. Only your phone number, display name, quality rating, messaging limits and approved templates are transferred.
While approved templates are copied over during migration, their quality ratings are not carried forward. Duplicated templates start with an unknown rating for the first 24 hours; a new quality score is generated after that.
Not all templates will migrate automatically. To be duplicated, a template must have both a status of APPROVED and a green quality score. Templates exceeding the destination WABA’s template limit must be recreated manually.
Phone number registration completes instantly, so you can send and receive messages without interruption. However, template duplication runs in the background and may take several hours. Meta suggests starting the migration process before you fully switch over to avoid downtime.
Messages delivered before the migration completes are billed through your old provider. Messages delivered after completion are billed to you as a SendZen customer. Plan accordingly to avoid unexpected charges.
SendZen uses Meta’s Embedded Signup flow to migrate numbers. The process is similar to adding a new number, but you’ll select a migration option during signup.
Select your existing Business Manager (or create a new one if necessary).
2.
Choose to create a new WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) for the destination or use an existing WABA in your Business Manager. A new WABA is usually created automatically during migration.
3.
Enter the phone number to migrate. Meta will send a verification PIN via SMS or voice call. Enter the PIN to verify ownership.
4.
Confirm that you are migrating from your current provider to SendZen.
5.
Submit the migration request. Meta will begin copying approved templates and transferring assets.
You can continue sending and receiving messages through your old provider while migration runs in the background. Once migration finishes, messages will start flowing through your new SendZen account. Return to SendZen → My WABA → View Status to check when the number appears as Connected with your WABA.
Open WhatsApp Manager → Message Templates via the link in View Status to verify which templates were duplicated. Re‑create any templates that didn’t transfer (templates without an APPROVED status or green quality rating won’t be duplicated).
Monitor your quality rating; migrated templates start with an unknown rating for 24 hours and then receive a new score.
Once your number is live under SendZen, update your system to use SendZen’s API endpoints and webhook URLs. Test sending messages to ensure everything functions as expected. Confirm that billing is working by checking your conversation spending in SendZen’s dashboard.
Migrating your WhatsApp Business phone number lets you switch providers without losing your brand identity, messaging limits or green tick. The process is only available via Meta’s Embedded Signup and is subject to strict conditions: the number must have an approved display name, only Cloud API numbers can be migrated, and template quality ratings do not transfer. By following the steps above, you can move your number to SendZen smoothly while preserving most of your existing assets.
