How to Increase Your Messaging Limits

WhatsApp messaging limits (also called messaging tiers) control how many unique customers you can message in a rolling period. These limits are managed by Meta, and upgrades depend on your messaging behavior and quality rating.
This guide explains:
what messaging limits mean,
what increases limits,
what blocks upgrades,
and how to monitor everything starting from SendZen.

Step 1: Check your current messaging limit from SendZen#

1.
Log in to SendZen
2.
Go to My WABA
3.
Click View Status
4.
Open your phone number
You will see (depending on availability):
current messaging tier / limit
quality rating
number status (connected/ready)
If you need deeper detail, click:
WhatsApp Manager link (from View Status)

What messaging limits actually measure#

Messaging limits are based on how many unique users you can message.
A “unique user” generally means:
a unique WhatsApp phone number (customer)
Messaging limits apply mainly to:
business-initiated messages (templates)
scaling outbound notifications
If you only reply to inbound customers (support), limits are usually less painful.

What increases messaging limits (the real triggers)#

Meta typically upgrades messaging tiers when:

1) Your messages are delivered and engaged with#

If real users receive your messages and don’t complain/block you, you gain trust.

2) You message unique users gradually (healthy growth)#

Messaging 10,000 new users overnight can tank quality.
Messaging growth in a controlled, consent-based way helps upgrades.

3) Your quality rating stays healthy#

Your quality rating matters more than volume.
If quality drops:
upgrades slow down
limits can decrease
templates can get disabled in extreme cases

What blocks upgrades or reduces limits#

Meta may block upgrades if:
too many users block/report your messages
you send templates to users without consent
you send promotional/spammy messages
your templates have high negative feedback
billing/payment is not configured properly (in some setups)
your account is under review or has compliance issues

Recommended strategy to increase limits safely#

1) Start with high-intent use cases first#

Best use cases to build a good quality history:
OTP / login codes
transactional updates (delivery, appointment confirmation)
reminders (with explicit opt-in)
Avoid early-stage:
heavy marketing campaigns
cold outreach
bulk blasts

2) Use approved templates properly#

If you are messaging first, templates are required.
Read:
Managing Message Templates

3) Warm-up your number (don’t spike volume)#

A simple, safe pattern:
Start with smaller batches of opted-in users
Monitor quality rating
Increase gradually only if quality remains healthy

4) Keep opt-in and user expectations clear#

Your messages should never surprise users.
Best practice:
show opt-in checkbox in your product
explain what messages they’ll receive
offer a clear way to stop/opt-out

How long does it take to increase limits?#

There is no fixed timeline because Meta controls upgrades.
Typical factors that affect timing:
quality rating stability
consistent usage over time
unique customer engagement
account verification status (sometimes helps)
region and account history
Note: Messaging tier upgrades are controlled by Meta and can take time. Even if you’re doing everything right, upgrades may not happen immediately.

How to monitor limits and quality (best workflow)#

Start from SendZen#

1.
SendZen → My WABA → View Status
2.
Open phone number → check:
tier/limit
quality rating
status

Then open Meta for deeper details#

From View Status, click:
WhatsApp Manager → Phone Numbers → select number

Quick troubleshooting#

“My tier isn’t increasing”#

Check:
are users blocking/reporting?
are you messaging only opted-in users?
are templates compliant and clear?
is your quality rating stable?

“My tier dropped”#

This usually indicates:
negative feedback spike
policy issue
poor template quality
Reduce volume, fix messaging strategy, and rebuild quality.
